The 9th annual meeting of the Association of Healthcare Value Analysis Professionals (AHVAP) kicked off in Minneapolis on Thursday, October 25, with more than 100 members and vendors in attendance. In just a decade, this group has grown from an e-mail chat group of 13 to more than 225 members.

How would I describe our members? Several adjectives come to mind:

  • Unified
  • Creative
  • Intelligent
  • Savvy
  • Filled with initiative
  • Energetic
  • Driven
  • Collaborative

President Nila Getter, from Kettering Health Network, announced plans for professional standards and certification coming for AHVAP in the future. She asked all attendees to recruit a new member, with the vision to recruit 1000 new members by the end of this decade. Let’s see if we can meet the goal. The future is limitless for AHVAP with unlimited possibilities.

Another highlight of the first day of the conference was David Ewald, of Ewald Consulting, who was the keynote speaker. His topic, Success by Association, struck a chord when he described the benefits that busy professionals gain from the associations to which they belong. I know that I find value in the associations of which I’m a part. I’ve been able to:

  • Develop leadership skills
  • Solve people challenges
  • Increase professional knowledge
  • Demonstrate commitment
  • Establish friendships
  • Make contacts

Associations do a lot of good. They are everywhere you go and part of everything we do. Associations are very often the leaders for change.

Are you associated?
